Bee watching can be enjoyable just like bird watching. The more you watch the more you will notice - you begin to differentiate their size, pattern and movements. Certain bee species will usually be found on certain plants.
Which plants attract bees to your garden depends on where you live but usually bees love native plants and it is recommended to have an assortment of bee plants to attract bee diversity and abundance.
I live in Australia so I will try and plant more:
Brachyscome groundcovers
Leptospermum scoparium (Manuka or Tea tree or just Leptospermum) is a shrub native to New Zealand and southeast Australia from which manuka honey is made by bees.
and
Eucalyptus trees
Apparently all bees around the world also love:
Lavender
Daisies and
Borage
Mint
Lemon Balm
Thyme and
Tansy

I was thinking about bees the same day you were - I've got some photos of them loving our pigface and borage. They're such a delight to watch.
