Buzzy the Bumblebee by Denise Brennan-Nelson

Buzzy the Bumblebee book review

Buzzy the Bumblebee is sitting high up on top of a flower reading a book.  It says, "Bumblebees weren`t made to fly."
This book is more about the universal message of learning to believe in yourself and your own abilities than about bees but I have included it here because it is about the wonderful character Buzzy and the garden, stream and nature where he spends his days. The illustrations are colourful and buzzy is very appealing.

Stranded on top of a flower
Buzzy longed to fly away. His heart still knew how
But his head had forgotten the way.

Buzzy ventures home without flying and gets motivational help from his parents to help him conquer his self doubt, trust himself and fly again:

You`re doubting yourself.
Fear is in the way. Listen to your heart Buzzy
 Not what others say.

IDEAS TO EXTEND LEARNING ABOUT BEES:
Science: Explaining bees to children
Art: basic bee and hive shapes
Songs:  Collection of bee rhymes and songs
Discussion: What did Buzzy learn?
